    The Criteria

Not every industry is the right fit. The best verticals share five characteristics.

    1

    An identifiable professional community

People who self-identify as being 'in' the industry. They attend the same conferences, read the same publications, know the same players. If professionals don't think of themselves as part of a distinct industry, there's no audience to serve.

    2

    Active deal flow

Companies buying, selling, partnering, launching, hiring, and pivoting. These activities create news. An industry with no movement has nothing to write about.

    3

    Advertising demand

Vendors, platforms, and service providers who want to reach industry professionals and are willing to pay to do so. This is what funds the publication.

    4

    A vulnerable incumbent

An existing trade publication that's built on legacy technology, publishes infrequently, has no community features, and has grown complacent through lack of competition.

    5

Enough scale to sustain a publication

Too niche and there's no audience. Too broad and you're competing with mainstream business media. The sweet spot is an industry with thousands of active professionals but no truly excellent dedicated publication.

    03

    Opportunities

    Verticals seeking partners.

Each of these industries meets our criteria - identifiable community, active deal flow, advertising demand, and a vulnerable incumbent. We're looking for the right partner for each one.

    Fintech & Payments

    Seeking Partner

Constant M&A activity, regulatory shifts, and new market entrants create a relentless news cycle. High-value audience for advertising - software vendors, payment processors, and compliance platforms all want to reach fintech professionals.

    PropTech

    Seeking Partner

Real estate technology is a growing vertical that's underserved by dedicated trade media. Active VC investment generates regular news. No single dominant publication has emerged as the definitive voice.

    Affiliate Marketing

    Seeking Partner

PerformanceIN, the main UK trade publication, has shut down. Affiliate Summit's editorial is weak. There's a genuine gap in a highly commercial industry where professionals are digitally native and would engage deeply with community features.

    Creator Economy

    Seeking Partner

A massive, fast-moving industry with no definitive B2B trade press. Currently covered by tech blogs as a side topic rather than as the dedicated vertical it deserves. Creators and platforms both need industry intelligence.

    HR Tech & Recruitment

    Seeking Partner

Large addressable market with regular product launches, active conference circuit, and strong advertising demand from software vendors. Existing publications are institutional and enterprise-focused, leaving room for a modern, community-driven alternative.

    Legal Tech

    Seeking Partner

Growing rapidly as law firms adopt technology. Underserved by dedicated trade media - Artificial Lawyer is a one-person operation. High-value audience for advertisers. Professionals in this space are hungry for intelligence.

    Cybersecurity

    Seeking Partner

Exploding market with constant threat landscape changes and massive vendor advertising budgets. Established publications like Dark Reading and SC Media exist but are traditional in format and approach. A modern, community-driven alternative would find an audience.

    EdTech

    Seeking Partner

Post-pandemic growth has permanently shifted education toward digital. Ongoing product launches, institutional buying cycles, and policy changes create regular news. Existing publications are editorial-focused with weak community.

    Sustainability & CleanTech

    Seeking Partner

Massive growth trajectory, regulatory tailwinds, ESG reporting requirements driving corporate demand for intelligence. GreenBiz is dominant but traditional. The market is large enough for a modern, AI-powered competitor.

    Credit & Revenue Recovery

    Seeking Partner

An industry undergoing significant technology-led transformation. Regulatory complexity creates constant news. Active M&A as the sector consolidates. No dominant modern trade publication exists.

This list is not exhaustive. If your industry meets the criteria above and you have the expertise to lead its definitive publication, we want to hear from you - even if it's not listed here.

    04

    Honest Boundaries

Not every industry is a fit. We'd rather be honest about that.

Some verticals don't suit this model. We won't waste your time or ours if the opportunity isn't real.

    General technology

Too broad. Dominated by TechCrunch, The Verge, and Wired. No room for a new entrant.

    Crypto & Web3

Too volatile. Audience is unreliable. Advertising market has collapsed.

    Fashion & luxury

Visual-first medium where AI editorial won't cut it. Quality demands human curation.

    Food & restaurant

Inherently local. Can't be effectively served by a single national or global publication.

    See your industry up there?

If you know one of these verticals inside out - or if you see an opportunity we haven't listed - let's talk.
